   “America’s Fallen” is lttle more than a euphemism when applied to the deaths of American war heroes.  All those 1,343,812 men and women, including combat and other fatalities. who have perished in the service of our country since the Revolution through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are true, American heroes.

In an ideal world, all people would have sufficient food to eat, a good roof over their heads, and a decent life. 

   They would enjoy freedom from want and from fear, freedom of speech and expression,  freedom to worship or not worship as they pleased, essentially FDR’s “Four Freedoms” as delineated in January, 1941 toward the end of the Great Depresssion and eleven months before Pearl Harbor, both of which changed everything.

I gave my two granddaughters, aged 11 and 13, little, red, paper poppies the other day. 

They looked at them skeptically and asked, “What’s this?”  I briefly tried to explain their meaning, that red poppies are worn on Memorial Day to commemorate America’s war dead, the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have died for our country.  The girls shrugged and pocketed the poppies.

   A recent Gallup poll shows that, contrary to leftists’ contentions that Americans are pro-abortion and lily-livered Republicans who are fearful of taking a stand on the issue, fully 61% of adults oppose abortions and believe it should be illegal in most circumstances.
