In “Fluke, Flake, Fraud–or All Three?” I laid out the case that 30 year old Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke was, by definition, both a slut and a prostitute as Rush Limbaugh alleged last week.
Limbaugh’s scathing terminology was unfortunate and he later apologized but Ms. Fluke, revelling in the limelight she purposefully created, rejected his mea culpa.
Ms. Fluke’s admission that birth control is costing her an exorbitant thousand dollars annually testifies to her sluttish promiscuity. Her demands that others pay for her to have sex without consequences satisfy the definition of a prostitute, although that description is more tenuous.
In contemporary parlance and in view of today’s loose sexual mores, Ms. Fluke may not technically be a slut and Limbaugh was clearly wrong in applying the word to her since the slut word would then be applicable to at least half the population of college and university students, and we can’t have that!
Rush’s gross indiscretion doesn’t seem to have bothered Sandra very much.
She has expressed righteous indignation in various venues and wasn’t harmed in a legal sense by the epithet. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer wants her to sue Limbaugh: “I’d like to see her take him to court. She is not a public figure and, for that reason, she should be able to sue for slander, libel or whatever else might be involved.”
There are two problems with that line of thinking. First, the 30 year old law student defamed herself by going public about her personal life and her obviously voracious sexual drive and, second, she is indeed an activist “public figure” who has served as a former president of Law Students for Reproductive Justice and vice president of the Women’s Legal Alliance.
In any lawsuit, Ms. Fluke would have to prove both that she is not slutty and that she sustained damages as a result of Limbaugh’s invective. If anything, she has gained worshipful notoriety over the last week and the trial would devolve into a media circus.
In any event, Ms. Fluke has already won the battle of the Great Slut Controversy.
President Barack Hussein Obama laughed himself silly over Wanda Sykes’ hilarious joke wishing Limbaugh would die, (“I hope his kidneys fail”), at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2009. That snarky wish for death entertained him.
However, the president was overjoyed with Limbaugh’s comment which effectively deflected attention from his effort to overrule the First Amendment’s guaranty of the free exercise of religion. He called Ms. Fluke to offer encouragement and said her parents should be proud of their randy daughter.
Limbaugh has already lost eleven corporate sponsors as well as two of the 600 radio stations that carry his show.
Bringing down Limbaugh is second on the Obama wish list only to destroying his cable television nemesis, Fox News. Whether he succeeds is doubtful but possible. His mainstream media helped force Glenn Beck off FNC which whet his appetite to demolish Rush and he is being aided and abetted by those hypocritical sponsors, who are perhaps fearful of what he could do to them in a second term.
On Politicons.com, Henry D’Andrea asks the very pertinent question, “When Will Carbonite Drop Ed Schultz?” Carbonite pulled its Limbaugh ads following the slut remark but is far more tolerant of Ed Schultz on MSNBC despite the fact Schultz typically gets away with contemptible ad hominem attacks on conservatives.
Carbonite’s CEO David Friend took great umbrage with Rush, saying, “No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady.”
Apparently, since Friend hasn’t dropped “The Ed Show,” his daughters were not at all insulted or abused by Shultz’ similar abuse last May when he referred to conservative Laura Ingraham as a “right-wing slut.” (http://bit.ly/zV99Yx)
I guess criticizing left-wing sluts is more reprehensible than criticizing right-wing sluts.
I guess, too, neither our left-wing president nor his lovely wife take no offense to Bill Maher’s repetitive misogynistic comments since Obama hasn’t returned Maher’s much-hyped donation of a million dollars to his super PAC.
Money seems to talk and principles seem to walk for Obamians.
RedState.com quoted liberal Kirsten Powers on her Bill Maher opinions: “Maher has called Palin a ‘dumb twat’ and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann ‘boobs’ and ‘two bimbos’ . . . He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator.”
Ms. Powers speculated, “Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job. Maher said of a woman who was harassed while breast-feeding at an Applebee’s, ’Don’t show me your t*ts.’ “ (http://bit.ly/zBZdiR)
Just imagine! And then try to imagine the president and gutless advertisers employing the same standards to leftists as they do to conservatives.
