Unfortunately, this isn’t news, or shouldn’t be. http://townhall.com/news/us/2008/06/27/poll_schools_not_properly_preparing_kids
America’s public schools haven’t merely been falling behind. They’re in a freefall compared to other nations, including “developing” nations such as Slovakia, et al. which, almost literally, don’t have a pot to pee in but yet succeed in educating kids far better than we do.
Thing is, it’s not news simply because it’s been going on for a generation, at least, and if anyone noticed, they haven’t said much about it, and those who try to say much about it are derided as simpleton reactionaries.
The causes of the misedumacation going on in most schools today aren’t complex. They can easily be pinned on the National Education Association, the NEA, which says on its website that, “We’re Fighting for the Right to a Great Public School” (http://www.nea.org/index.html) when, in fact, it has been the major force behind diluting curriculum, undermining traditional values, endorsing and promoting liberal thought, and pushing diversity, all at the cost of abandoning the primary role of public schools, to provide a good, fundamental education.
There was good reason for U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige to have called the NEA a terrorist organization a few years back. I would refer the reader to one of many simpleton reactionary articles which capsulates the problems with this socialist, terrorist organization and which concludes with the optimistic view that “there just might be hope for the future of America’s schools.” http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39598
Personally, I don’t share that optimism, especially in the near term, based on my personal, anecdotal observations. Those are admittedly limited to public education in the Long Island, New York area but unfortunately don’t appear to be rarities.
Rudolf Flesch’s blockbuster, Why Johnny Can’t Read, is now half a century old and Johnny (and Joanne) STILL can’t read—or write or compute or even think very well. Even worse, compared to the Johnny of 2008, those now-retired Johnnies are bloody geniuses!
Back then, Johnny and Joann couldn’t watch MTV, BET, CNN, and YouTube, because there was no internet, couldn’t post personal information on FaceBook which exposed them to sexual predators, didn’t have cell phones and couldn’t text messages such as, “Idk wut da fuk to thnk, i jst know joann won’t give bjs lik she useta!!! L She useta be GOOD lol, and stfu if u don’t agree! LOL!”
There were still some standards in schools for those old Johnnies and Joanns and elementary school kids weren’t required to read garbage such as the “diverse,” (read pro- homosexual), tomes, Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy’s Roommate.
When America’s guru, Oprah, says our schools are in crisis, http://www.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200604/tows_past_20060412.jhtml, and Bill Gates agrees, http://www.oprah.com/tows/slide/200604/20060411/slide_20060411_284_101.jhtml, to use the vernacular of young texters, Americas in deep chit bt wtf who cares roflmao!!!!!!
The following will be contested as poppycock, bs, exaggerated, baloney but I can attest that all actually happened within the last few years in Long Island schools:
….A middle aged, retired teacher decided she may want to return to teaching. She went for an interview by the principal of a middle school. While she was waiting in the main office, an indignant female student entered and upon seeing the principal went into a rant and lambasted the principal. This is a paraphrase: “Who da f*ck are YOU to suspend me, you muthaf*cker??” The principal ignored the student and apologized to the former teacher by saying, “I wish you hadn’t witnessed that.” The former teacher decided to pass up the interview and left.
….That same retired teacher ultimately took a middle school position in a different school district, hoping for better administrators. When she entered one class, she saw a male student with his hand down the front of a giggling female student. She immediately told both to stop what they were doing, which they grudgingly did. She notified the Assistant Principal who defended the “children” by saying, “Kids will be kids!” (LOL!)
….Another teacher confronted a student who was bullying another student. The bully responded by saying, “F*ck you!” She called for security backup, a rather large Black man who responded quickly and told the student to back off. The student responded with, “Ain’t no nigger gonna tell ME what to do!” Student was suspended. For 3 days.
I could go on but I won’t. I would ask parents and other concerned adults to investigate what’s going on in our schools today. It’s not a pretty picture for America’s students, America’s schools, and America’s future.
Hey, if Oprah and Bill Gates are concerned, shouldn’t we all be?
