John Davison “Jay” Rockefeller IV, more commonly known as Senator Jay Rockefeller, has given further testimony to the need for a mandatory congressional retirement age or, at the minimum, congressional term limits.Â
The 73 year old liberal Democrat, former governor and current senior senator from West Virginia, has demonstrated once again that either his advancing age or flashbacks from a misbegotten youth spent indulging in magic mushrooms, or both, have addled his aristocratic brain.Â
How else to explain his bizarre statement during a senate subcommitte hearing: “There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future. It would be a big favor to political discourse . . . and to the American people”?Â
Is that the sound of dictatorship in the background?Â
First of all, mentioning FOX and MSNBC in the same sentence clearly shows a woeful ignorance–or is it those shrooms, again?–of the nature of those two cable television news networks, the one, FOX, which presents a wide disparity of balanced news and commentary, the other, MSNBC, which presents an exclusively imbalanced, leftist viewpoint which has become an embarrassment even to its parent company, NBC.
Granted, though balanced with such liberal personalities as Juan Williams, Bob Beckel, Kirsten Powers, Susan Estrich, Pat Caddell, and Alan Colmes before he hooked his own show, and Harold Ford, Jr. before he headed for MSNBC, FOX does have a conservative slant in that the network features news the liberal stations such as MNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC–and MSNBC–prefer to quash in fear that the viewing public learns the truth.Â
Secondly, consider what Rockefeller is actually saying in the above statement advocating the abolition of the Fox News Channel, and MSNBC which wouldn’t be missed since its propaganda is already covered, if more temperately, by its sister liberal stations.
“It would be a big favor to political discourse:” It sure would be a huge favor to Rocky and his friends since it would remove the only counterbalance to the left on television.Â
Censuring FOX would indeed help the liberal end of the political spectrum and facilitate its “ability to do our work here in Congress, [the same work that was repudiated on November 2nd by] the American people.”Â
Banishing FOX certainly would enable Americans ”to be able to talk with each other,” although that “talk” would be tediously one-sided and, as for enabling them to ”have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future,” liberal Democrats have already undermined our faith and futures. No amount of liberal remedy is likely to restore them.Â
Finally, it’s true that the FCC pulling FOX’s plug “would be a big favor to political discourse,” but only if Rockefeller believes the political discourse in Cuba, and Venezuela, and North Korea, and Russia, and in other totalitarian regimes is superior to America’s discourse.Â
What Rocky really wants is suck up to the White House which regards FOX much the same way that liberals regard pro-lifers, people they don’t understand and therefore despise.  He and the White House have no interest in a level news playing field any more than Rockefeller’s great granddaddy was a devotee’ of more competition in the oil industry, an anti-competitive spirit Jay obviously inherited from John D. He and Obama rather dream of a field so skewed left that it would be indistinguishable from a Marxist dictatorship.Â
Let the FCC revoke MSNBC’s license, Senator Rockefeller. No one will notice or care anyway and Matthews, Maddow, Olbermann, and company will still be able to peddle their lib wares elsewhere.Â
But don’t dare mess with FOX, the chief conservative voice on TV, or else you may see a revolt that would make the Tea Party movement seem like a liberal putsch.Â
Instead, Rocky, have another shroom or a good long toke or whatever it is you do that explains your thinking.
