Thomas Jefferson Picture  Thomas Jefferson famously and prophetically said, “Any government powerful enough to give the people everything that they want is also powerful enough to take from the people all that they have.”

In view of the overbearing leadership currently burdening America, our third president and primary author of the Bill of Rights might have added that, “Any government allowed to exercise unchecked power will use that power to totally dominate every facet of the lives of its citizenzry,” a domination President Barack Hussein Obama’s government is in process of accomplishing.

Constitution Day - West Chester University  Many Americans fail to understand the purposes of our Constitution, believing that revered document encompasses our rights.  In fact, the Constitution simply empowered democratically-elected representatives to establish a federal government for the United States of America and to delegate to that government certain, limited, enumerated powers.  The Constitution does not grant anyone any rights.  Rather, the Founders–who wrote it–considered our rights to be “unalienable,” “God-given,” “natural rights” which could not revoked or abridged except by popular consent through an extended amendment process.

The Constitution was designed not to expand government but to limit government by granting it only those powers listed in the Constitution and spelled out in the Bill of Rights and makes vividly clear in the Tenth Amendment that any powers not specifically delegated to the federal government should be retained by the states and the people.

Granted, our country and world are significantly much more complex than in the eighteenth century.  However, none of that complexity demands that America abandon the fundamental principles on which our nation was founded, our unalienable, God-given, natural rights.

Yet, under Obama’s yoke, America has already witnessed unprecedented infringements on First Amendment guarantees of the free exercise of religion, abridging freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, and interfering with the right of peaceable assembly.

Incidents of those unconstitutional and criminal actions by our alleged, constitutional-scholar-president and his liberal-leftist henchmen and women will be reviewed in subsequent installments of this series but, for now, consider the most recent revelation about the Internal Revenue Service.

The purpose of the IRS is to collect federal taxes and to interpret and enforce the Internal Revenue Code.  That’s it.  Nothing in that Code legally permits the IRS to discriminate or to target individuals or groups for political purposes, although we have seen that the agency has been doing just that since the beginning of the Obama administration.

It’s old news that the IRS has been targeting, harassing, and dunning political conservatives and politically-conservative organizations for years but, now, is reporting that “the government [the IRS] was looking at a broader array of conservative groups and perhaps individuals,” including pro-life groups and individuals.

If the McClatchy report proves true, it would seem Obama’s IRS has expanded its harassment scope to intimidate virtually everyone who takes issue even with the president’s social policies.  If the report proves true, it would seem Obama’s Big Brother is well on his way to achieving total mind and soul control in America.
