Ever ready to revive its 8-year smear campaign against President George W. Bush and his administration and with the added bonus of the opportunity to deflect widespread current charges against the National Security Agency, smarmy Ariana Huffington and her equally-smarmy HuffingtonPost.com are touting the long-discredited rantings of one Russell D. Tice.
Tice, a 20-year intelligence analyst for the U.S. Air Force, Office of Naval Intelligence, Defense Intelligence Agency, and National Security Agency, had conducted intelligence missions in various locales and in 2005 claimed, without any substantiation, that the NSA and the DIA were engaged in unlawful, warrantless wiretapping of American citizens.
According to WashingtonMonthly.com, four years earlier Tice had alleged that a coworker might be a Chinese spy and after Tice relentlessly pressed the issue, the NSA declared him mentally unbalanced, reassigned him to clean cars in the motor pool, revoked his security clearance, and subsequently fired him in 2005.
Washington Monthly concluded that “Tice is either a genuine whistleblower or else he’s a genuine screwball.”
Outside of the Huffington Post, most people would seem to vote for the latter.
RenewAmerica.com elaborated on that “Chinese spy” and Tice’s status as a whistleblower: ”Tice was diagnosed by the Defense Department with ‘psychotic’ paranoia and fired for violating his security clearance by taking unauthorized peeks into the background of a female Asian employee he thought was a Chinese spy. In fact, Tice was involved in high-tech stalking of the woman. He also displayed racist tendencies.”
When he did get his chance to testify before the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations in 2006, Tice became remarkably forgetful and evasive.
He forgot that he may have been referring to President Bill Clinton’s “Echelon” spy program which was uncovered in 2000, he couldn’t share a whole host of information which he said was classified, and he boasted of possessing details he could not reveal which were far above his pay grade anyway.
None of that mattered to HuffPo which published a blockbuster report on the psychotic Russell Tice’s appearance this week on “The Boiling Frogs Show.”
There, hold onto your seats, Tice “claimed the intelligence community had ordered surveillance on a wide range of groups and individuals, including high-ranking military officials, lawmakers and diplomats.”
Hold harder onto those seats! Then Tice unloaded “the big one … this was in summer of 2004, one of the papers that I held in my hand was to wiretap a bunch of numbers associated with a 40-something-year-old wannabe senator for Illinois. You wouldn’t happen to know where that guy lives right now would you? It’s a big white house in Washington, D.C. That’s who they went after, and that’s the president of the United States now.”
Wow! He must mean Barack Hussein Obama! Of course, Mr. Tice had no proof of what he had held in his grubby hands nine years ago any more than he had evidence that the NSA Asian lady was a Chinese spy or that the NSA and DIA were crawling with wiretappers back in 2005.
It seems psychos like Russell Tice will say anything and muckrakers like HuffPo will publish anything if what is said and published serves to reflect negatively on Bush 43.
