The fat-obsessed Lady Michelle Obama, America’s unelected School Food Czarina who hypocritically throws lavish White House dinners stuffed with thousands of calories, wants high schools to limit their students caloric intake to 750-850 at lunch and the kids are fed up (pun intended) with her and the strictures imposed by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and the guidelines contained in its offshoot, the $11 billion National School Lunch Program.Â
Granted, the Flotus desperately needed some cause other than politics to distinguish herself from far more distinguished First Ladies but perhaps she should have campaigned on behalf of saving sea otters or decreasing crime in our black communities rather than focusing on childhood obesity.
Lady Obama’s typically muddle-headed, liberal leftist law failed to take into account the fact that America is still a free country–if barely–and that high school kids aren’t as dumb as she thinks they are and would reject her police state dictates by eating nothing, brown-bagging it, and/or supplementing those meager 750-850 calories with fattening junk food like Skittles and Lay’s Potato Chips because they were hungry.
School administrators quickly discovered that most students didn’t like and couldn’t make it through the day on a “healthful” lunch of brown wheat bread, skim or one-percent fat milk, non-fat yogurt, an apple, and maybe a single slice of whole wheat cheese pizza. In fact, according to Kentucky’s Harlan County Public School board member Myra Mosley, “They say it [federally-approved school lunches] tastes like vomit,” which hopefully is hyperbolic.
On top of that, many school districts are losing money–$30,000 (Caitlin, IL and Voorheesville, NY, $100,000 a year at the Niskayuna SD in New York)  and are forced to discard uneaten food since kids won’t eat it and many more districts want out of the fed program, although, as usual, there’s a catch: If they bail, they will lose the program’s subsidies of 30 cents up to $3.00 per meal served, a financial conundrum Voorheesville considered but got out anyway, preferring to take a $150,000 budgetary hit in lieu of offering up what some students called “crap.”Â
Nevertheless, Lady O’s National School Lunch Program is alive and well with some 31 million students participating nationwide and, according to the School Nutrition Association, only 1% of 521 districts surveyed plan to dump her lunch and only about 3% were considering it, which seems to mean at least some of the others prefer to serve semi-edible crap, trash it, lose money, and watch their kids either starve or get fat on after-school junk food.Â
The problem with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which is neither making kids healthier nor hunger-free, and with Lady Michelle Obama’s War on Childhood Obesity is the same problem that plagues all Obamian initiatives that intrude on local issues, namely that the federal government has no clue as to what’s best for local governments and local people and, furthermore, has no business getting involved in their affairs. Maybe, unlike Lady O, they like fat kids more than they like hungry kids.Â
